Easter Island

Thanks to its iconic stone statue depictions of the island's indigenous people commonly referred to as "moai," many people around the world are familiar with images of Easter Island. A Chilean territory located in the Southeastern Pacific Ocean, most of Easter Island compromises what is now Rapa Nui National Park -- a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. Despite its tiny size and remote location, Easter Island is a big draw for cruisers visiting the South Pacific thanks to the moai, but since the island remains relatively untouched, it's also an excellent destination for diving, snorkeling and even surfing. Active excursion options and stunning white sand beaches abound, but everything is on a smaller scale than what many cruise travelers are accustomed to and will likely remain that way despite the draw of its intriguing history and breathtaking landscape.
